Are essential oils safe for kids?

A question I often hear is “are essential oils safe for kids?” The short answer is, yes, but with some added precautions!

Firstly, essential oils are extremely concentrated and not exactly regulated in the way you might assume.

The closest thing we have in the United States is an FDA requirement to have at least 5% essential oil in a bottle to be labeled “pure” or “therapeutic grade.” This is even true of the “USDA organic” ones; just the 5% oil part has to be organic, but the other 95% can be whatever and they don’t have to tell you what it is. 😳

This means: do your research and know your source! Cheap companies use lots of pesticides and chemical laden fillers, and you don’t want high concentrations of those things on your babies! Our fam uses Young Living oils exclusively because of their unique Seed to Seal promise, and because I’ve lived that promise firsthand! .

Secondly, always dilute essential oils when applying to your child’s skin. One drop of Young Living essential oil contains as many as 400 million trillion molecules! A little goes a long way, and children have more sensitive skin than adults do. We like organic coconut 🥥 oil around here.

Avoid applying essential oils to the eyes, inside of the ears or any mucous membranes. (This applies to adults as well!)

Read the usage label on the bottle and be aware of which oils are “hot.” Dilute these extra and apply to the bottoms of the feet where the skin is a bit tougher. (Think Thieves essential oil blend, which contains spicy cinnamon and clove.) Some great carrier oils you can use are V-6 vegetable oil complex from Young Living, organic coconut oil, grapeseed oil, almond oil, jojoba oil etc.

Me mindful of how you store your oils so little hands can’t get into them without supervision, and keep the oils with child resistant tops way out of reach.

Diffusing oils is another great option for the littles. Both of my kiddos have diffusers in their own rooms with their own sleepy time blends. (We got one diffuser in our starter kit and I immediately invested in extras for our other rooms!)

It’s also helpful to have an essential oil reference guide of some sort on hand so you can look up oils as you go, in case you’re ever unsure about one.

And pick up a copy of the book Gentle Babies by Debra Raybern! That is an excellent source for all oily things pregnancy, baby & kid related. 💕

And if you’re REALLY unsure, Young Living has a whole line of pre-diluted oils just for kids called KidScents. We love this line, especially Owie and Tummygize. 😊

If you don’t have Young Living oils already, you can use this link to become a wholesale member right now, or if you feel like you want more info you can check out the kit on our blog and we’ll tell you all about why you need it in your life. 💕 Happy oiling!

White Angelica Essential Oil Blend Uses

Did you hear?! White Angelica is back in stock!  Praise the Lord!   But it’s only available on Essential Rewards orders. Even better because you get store credit back every time you order on ER.

Not familiar with White Angelica? Well, it’s a beautiful blend of bergamot, myrrh, geranium, sacred sandalwood, ylang ylang, coriander, black spruce, Melissa, hyssop and rose.

A lot of my reiki friends and energy workers use this one in their practices to protect themselves from negative energies. It’s also a blessing for massage therapists who are all up in peoples’ energy fields while they’re touching them.

It offers a feeling of security and comfort to those who do not feel emotionally safe, and it can be used on our animal friends as well.

It increases the aura around the body, creating a feeling of wholeness and strength, like having the protection of angels all around you.

It acts as a protective shield so we don’t take on others’ negative energy.

It also helps us release the negative emotions of greed, loneliness, rejection, shame and weakness, so we can be the beings of light we were created to be.  It lets us remember who we really are.

It helps open up the root, sacral, third eye and crown chakras, centering us and connecting us to our higher power.

Apply topically to the shoulders, ears, throat, spine, wrists or neck. Or you can bathe in it or diffuse it.

I’m so glad this one’s back, you guys! You don’t even know!!!

If you want this oil you’ll need to be on ER first.  If you don’t know what that is, you can watch my video on ER at www.thejoyfuloilers.com/essential-rewards

And if you’re not a member of Young Living yet, what are you waiting for?! You can use this link to join our tribe right now, or you can get more info about the kit an what’s in it here. And while you’re at it, get on Essential Rewards so you can get you some White Angelica!  Thanks for reading, friends, and happy new year!

Clear Out Old, Stale Energy with Sage Essential Oil

Peace out, 2017. ↠Out with the old ↠ in with the new, energetically speaking.

Right now I’m diffusing sage essential oil, which is steam distilled from sage leaves and much more potent than dried sage because of its high concentration. Remember, it takes a LOT of plant matter to produce a small amount of essential oil!

Sage’s Latin name, Salvia, is derived from the word “salvation.” The ancient Romans referred to it as “herba sacra” or “sacred herb.” It strengthens the vital centers of the body and supports metabolism.

It’s mentally stimulating and can help combat low vibe feelings and mental fatigue.

It balances the pelvic chakra where negative emotions from denial and abuse are stored.

It’s also very good for PMS and helping with hormone deficiencies (like estrogen, progesterone + testosterone.) It provides liver support, and stimulates gallbladder function and the circulatory system! One word of warning though: this oil should be avoided by epilectics and those with high blood pressure.

And it moves stale energy so you can get on with life.

So basically, it’s perfect for new beginnings, like today. 💕

If you’re not already using Young Living oils but you would like to be, you can become a member right now by using this link to order your Premium Starter Kit for just $160 (or more if you want a fancier diffuser than the Dew Drop or Home Diffuser.) If you want more info or just want to know what comes in the kit then you can visit www.thejoyfuloilers.com/oils. Thanks for stopping by the blog! Have an AMAZING 2018!
